Eligibility Requirements
Who Can Apply?
- British National (Overseas) status holders
- Their immediate family members (spouse/partner and children under 18)
- Hong Kong residents born after 1997 to BN(O) parents (special provisions apply)
Key Requirements
- Valid BN(O) passport or proof of eligibility
- Ability to accommodate and support yourself in UK for at least 6 months
- Commitment to learn English (for settlement pathway)
Application Process
1. Prepare Documents:
- BN(O) passport or proof of status
- TB test certificate (if applicable)
- Financial evidence (bank statements)
2. Apply Online:
- Through UKVI website
- Use "UK Immigration: ID Check" app
3. Biometrics:
- Attend visa application center in Hong Kong
4. Decision:
- Typically within 12 weeks
Settlement Pathway
- After 5 years in UK:
- Can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
- Must pass Life in UK test and English B1 requirement
After 12 months with ILR:
- Eligible for British citizenship
