Marriage Visitor Visa
The Marriage Visitor Visa allows individuals to enter the UK solely to get married or form a civil partnership, provided they leave the country within six months. Unlike the Spouse Visa, this visa does not permit long-term settlement in the UK.
Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify, applicants must:
- Plan to marry or enter a civil partnership within six months of arrival in the UK.
- Intend to leave the UK after the ceremony (this is not a settlement visa).
- Have a genuine relationship with their partner (evidence may be required).
- Meet financial requirements – Must prove they can support themselves without public funds.
- Have suitable accommodation arranged for their stay.
- Comply with visa conditions – No work or study permitted (except for permitted activities).
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
Proof of Marriage/Civil Partnership Plans
- A booking confirmation from a registered UK venue (such as a church or registry office)
- A signed letter from the venue confirming the ceremony date.
Relationship Evidence
- Proof of contact (messages, call logs, photos together).
- If previously married, a divorce certificate or death certificate (if widowed).
Financial Proof
- Bank statements (last 6 months).
- Payslips or employer letter (if employed).
- If sponsored: A letter from the UK sponsor + their financial documents.
Accommodation Details
- Hotel booking or a letter from a host confirming lodging.
Travel History & Immigration Compliance
- Previous visas (if applicable).
- Evidence of ties to home country (job, property, family).
Restrictions on the Marriage Visitor Visa
- ❌ No right to work (paid or unpaid).
- ❌ No access to public funds (welfare benefits).
- ❌ Cannot switch to another visa from inside the UK.
- ❌ Must leave the UK within 6 months (cannot extend this visa).
