Current Status After Brexit
- The EU Permanent Residence system closed on June 30, 2021
- Replaced by the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
- Existing PR cards remain valid as proof of status

If You Already Have Permanent Residence
- Your PR remains legally valid as proof of residence rights
- You should apply to convert to EUSS status for:
- Easier proof of status (digital)
- Continued access to benefits/services
- Ability to sponsor family members
Late Applications to EUSS
- You may still apply if you have "reasonable grounds" for missing the deadline, such as:
- Medical reasons
- Victim of domestic abuse
- Lack of awareness (in some cases)
How to Prove 5 Years' Continuous Residence
- Provide evidence for each year such as:
- Employment records/P60s
- Utility bills/council tax statements
- Bank statements showing UK transactions
- NHS registration records
Pathway to British Citizenship
- After obtaining settled status (or with existing PR):
- Hold status for 12 months
- Meet Good Character requirement
- Pass Life in the UK test
- Meet English language requirement
