UK Student Visitor Visa
Overview
- The Student Visitor Visa (now replaced by the Short-Term Study Visa) allows international students to undertake short courses in the UK for:
- Up to 6 months (for most short courses)
- Up to 11 months (for English language courses only)
Key Features:
- Study at an accredited UK institution
- No work permitted (paid or unpaid)
- No extensions beyond 11 months
- Can not allowed to bring family members
Eligibility Requirements
- Be 16+ years old
- Have an unconditional offer from a licensed UK institution
- Prove sufficient funds for course fees + living costs
- Intend to leave the UK after studies
- Not use this as a route to long-term study
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
Proof of Course Enrollment
- Acceptance letter from a UK-recognized institution
- Course details (duration, fees, accreditation)
Financial Evidence
- Bank statements (covering tuition + £1,334/month for London, £1,023/month outside London)
- Sponsor documents (if applicable)
Accommodation & Travel Plans
- Confirmed UK accommodation
- Return flight details (recommended)
Additional Documents
- Valid passport
- TB test results (if from a high-risk country)
- Proof of ties to home country
Application Process
- Apply online (up to 3 months before travel)
- Pay the visa fee (£200 for 6 months / £400 for 11 months)
- Attend biometrics appointment
- Receive decision (typically within 3 weeks)
Restrictions
- ❌ No work allowed
- ❌ No visa extensions (except 11-month English courses)
- ❌ Cannot switch to a Student Visa from inside the UK
- ❌ No public fund access
